Infant Baptism is for parishioners only and is celebrated on five occasions during the year after parents and godparents have completed a course of preparation. There can be no celebration without this important course of preparation having been completed. Further explanation of the course and the dates for the current year can be found in the application form (bright green) in the church porch. Baptisms do not take place during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
Please note: it is difficult to imagine that a family/individual who is not attending our congregation regularly could be ready to celebrate a Sacrament of the Church.
First Reconciliation is normally celebrated just before Advent, following a preparation programme for both the children and their parents. Application forms for the programme are available between the summer half-term and 31st August each year. Participants in this year's programme can find the dates of their sessions in the Parish diary.
First Eucharist is normally celebrated in June, following a preparation programme for both the children and their parents. Application forms for the programme are available between the summer half-term and 31st August each year. Participants in this year's programme can find the dates of their sessions in the Parish diary.
Candidates prepare for the sacrament of confirmation within the Parish, culminating in a celebration with other parishes in the deanery in early summer. Application forms for the preparation programme are available between the summer half-term and 31st August each year. Participants in this year's programme can find the dates of their sessions in the Parish diary.
Marriage is celebrated by appointment with the Prish Priest. It should be remembered that six months minimum notice is required before the wedding; this is a requirement of the Church for all marriages. It is also necessary that one of the two parties have a meaningful connection with the Parish. Marriages do not take place during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
The Diocesan seminary is St John's in Wonersh Surrey. Most seminarians, whether diocesan or religious, complete a 5-year course leading to the B.Th Honours degree. The seminary also has a programme for former Anglican clergy.
Please let the Parish Office know if you, a friend or a family member is in need of the sacrament at home.
It is important to note that all chaplaincy services to our local hospital are co-ordinated by St Joseph's parish office in Redhill (telephone: 01737 761017). The hospital does not inform the chaplain of your presence in the hospital unless a specific request is made by either a patient or their family - this needs to be made clear to the ward staff on admission to the hospital.
If you are going to be in hospital as a 'planned admission' you are encouraged to contact our Parish Priest well beforehand, so that you can receive the Sacrament of the Sick prior to admission if this is appropriate.
