Welcome

The Holy Family is the Roman Catholic Parish Church for the community of Reigate in the UK Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.

The Holy Family community is both active and welcoming, offering spiritual and pastoral support for all members. We are glad that you have chosen to "come and see" (John 1:39) and we welcome you to our Parish website.

Angela George RIP

With sadness we announce death of Angela George, mother of Fr. Daryl George. Her death, last Sunday, was completely unexpected. Please pray for the repose of her soul and for the consolation of Fr. Daryl and other members of the family.

If you wish to send condolences and good wishes to Fr. Daryl, please do so by post to:- St Charles Presbytery, Chesswood Road, Worthing, West Sussex BN11 2AE.

We ask you, please, not to swamp him with telephone calls at this difficult time.

Mass was celebrated in Holy Family Church for Angela on Wednesday 24th June, and will be celebrated again on Saturday 11 July 2009, these intentions coming from the whole community. This coming weekend a card of condolence will be available for all parishioners to sign who wish to do so. Opportunities for signing will be in the small hall, at Holy Family, and in the other two churches.

Changes To Weekday Liturgies

During the months of July and August we will generally only be offering one public Mass each weekday. These will be at the usual times in whichever church they are celebrated. Occasional exceptions will be made e.g. First Friday Mass in Bletchingley (7pm). The weekend schedule will be maintained unchanged.

We are also changing our policy and practice on the use of Liturgies of the Word with distribution of Holy Communion. These services were originally intended for use on Sundays; in extraordinary circumstances when the faithful might be denied Holy Communion on the Lord’s day. They were never intended to be used as a normal part of a schedule to plug gaps on weekdays.

From the beginning of July we intend to replace these liturgies with the celebration of Morning Prayer of the Divine Office of the Church. This may be combined with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and also include the weekday readings.

Ministers of Holy Communion visiting the sick requiring access to the Tabernacle on a particular day can still do so reverently, but without ceremony.

The only time that Liturgies of the Word with Holy Communion will be used is when a Mass is withdrawn that has already been published in the newsletter; in other words when a congregation gathers expecting Mass and there has been no adequate opportunity to inform them otherwise.

This measure is not intended to shut churches or break up worshipping communities nor to deny the faithful the sacraments. It is to maintain the proper connection of Holy Communion to the celebration of the Mass. For those who are interested more details are available on information sheets at the back of church.

Plenary Indulgence

KIERAN

BISHOP OF ARUNDEL AND BRIGHTON

PLENARY INDULGENCE
FOR THE 2000th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF SAINT PAUL THE APOSTLE

On the occasion of the 2000th Anniversary of the birth of Saint Paul the Apostle, Pope Benedict XVI has granted the gift of special graces for the sanctification and eternal salvation of the faithful. A Plenary Indulgence may be obtained by those who devoutly make a pilgrimage to the Basilica of St. Paul in Rome. The Holy Father has asked that this gift is shared also by those who may not be able to make this pilgrimage in the local churches throughout the world.

I hereby decree that, in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton a Plenary Indulgence may be obtained in every church and chapel in the Diocese by those who attend Mass or other Solemn Prayers in honour of Saint Paul on the Vigil and Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, 24th and 25th January 2009 and on the Vigil and Solemnity of Ss. Peter and Paul on 28th and 29th June 2009.

His Holiness, Pope Benedict, has further granted the same Plenary Indulgence to those who, through illness of some other serious cause, are not able to attend the Liturgy of the Church when they spiritually join in the Jubilee celebration, offering their prayers and sufferings to God.

The Plenary Indulgence may be received by those who are truly detached and repentant of sin, purified by the Sacrament of Penance, restored by Holy Communion and pray for the intention of the Holy Father, the Pope.

The Indulgence may be obtained for the benefit of the faithful themselves and for the deceased as many times as they fulfil the condition of the decree but only one Indulgence may be received on any one day.
